Texas Mountain Laurel, Mountain Laurel, Mescal Bean, Frijolito, Sophora secundiflora is an evergreen shrub or small tree, ranging from just a few feet to more than 30 feet high, but usually only around 10 to 15 feet high.
Evergreen foliage is dark green and glossy, flowers are drooping clusters of bluish-lavender, very showy, fragrant blossoms and they attract butterflies.
Interesting large seed pods follow the flowers, they contain highly poisonous, large, red colored seeds.
Texas Mountain Laurel is slow-growing, requires full sun to part shade and low to moderate water usage.
Heat, drought and cold tolerant plant, great for desert Southwest landscapes. Very low maintenance plant.
