New Mexico Privet, Forestiera neomexicana, is a deciduous, native shrub or small tree. Grows 12 to 18 feet high, by 12 feet wide.
Usually multi-trunked, with whitish bark. Foliage turns a bright yellow in the fall.
Trees are either male or female, with the female trees producing masses of purple-black berries that are readily eaten by birds.
Full sun, heat, drought and cold tolerant. Low water usage after becoming established.
NM Privet is a great choice for the desert Southwest landscape or xeriscape.
