Barberry

Barberry, Berberis thunbergii, also known as Japanese Barberry or Dwarf Redleaf Barberry.

Deciduous shrub, grows about 2 to 3 feet high, but can be kept very low with ocasional pruning. Watch out for the thorns!

Requires full sun to partial shade, deep purple color is best in full sun.

Flowers are yellow, but inconspicuous and bloom time is mid to early summer.

Great accent shrub when planted near green plants or in light colored rock. White rock and purple Barberry make a striking combination.
