The Chinese Pistache tree is really a good choice for the desert Southwest. The tree is a moderate grower, 25 to 35 feet high.
Requires full sun and does well in the desert heat. Moderate water usage.
The only issue we had with the Chinese Pistache tree is the high volume of seed litter. Small red berries fall in clusters, like grapes, and can be a problem if grown over other plants, see photos.
The Chinese Pistache is small enough for patio gardens and the fall foliage is a fantastic red. A very nice small shade tree for the desert Southwest garden.
