Cholla Cactus

Cholla,Optunia, is a desert Southwest native. The plant has long cylindrical jointed branches covered with masses of stickers.

Make sure to plant Cholla away from foot paths, pieces of branches as well as spines and stickery fruit create a lot of litter under the plant

Cholla has orange, purple or yellowish flowers, which appear in late spring, followed by hard fruit with a dimple on the flower end.

Some birds like the Cactus Wren make their nest's in the Cholla cactus, a very well protected nest!

Excellent plant for the Southwest desert landscape or xeriscape!
