The Grant County Rolling Stones Gem and Mineral Show is an annual event usually held on Labor Day. Rock hounds and rock vendors converge on the small mountain town of Silver City, NM to swap rock stories or maybe acquire a new formation for their collection.
There are fossilized shark teeth, crystals, polished rocks, lapidary supplies, lots of jewelry and even a few games where you play to win, you guessed it, rocks!
It’s amazing what you can find, from beads to huge fossils, the selection is great. Most rock formations are labeled, so you can learn something too.
This year NMSU had a small selection from the Zuhl collection, Las Cruces, NM. Interesting pieces of petrified wood and unique fossils like the one in the photo below.
Wildlife artist, A. Znaniecki showcased several of his pieces. His detailed paintings are on thin slices of beautiful geodes. More of his absolutely gorgeous art work can be seen at his website, www.aznaniecki.com. Click on the image below for a larger photo of him and his art work.
If you are a lover of rocks this is the show to see, not really a big show, but still very nice!
